Scottie Scheffler’s phenomenal year reached new heights on Sunday when he clinched Olympic gold, adding this prestigious medal to a season already overflowing with achievements. This incredible victory complements an already impressive haul that includes triumphs at The Players Championship, The Masters, four Signature Events, and an enormous lead as the World No. 1. As if that wasn’t enough, Scheffler also celebrated the birth of his son, Bennett, in 2024.
His Olympic win came with a $38,000 prize, but as Grant Boone aptly noted, the financial reward paled in comparison to the emotional significance of the win. Scheffler, who has earned $28 million this season, was moved to tears by the moment, underscoring that representing his country meant more than any financial sum.

Today he made barely $37,000. And sobbed.

The road to gold was paved with dramatic twists. Former World No. 1 Jon Rahm started the day with a blistering pace, making his sixth birdie by the 10th hole and securing a three-stroke lead. However, the wheels fell off for Rahm at the 11th hole when he missed a short par putt. This misstep was the beginning of a cascade of errors: he bogeyed the 12th, double-bogeyed the 14th, and finished with another bogey on the 18th, ending the day in a tie for fifth place—two strokes shy of the medals.
Rahm’s collapse was a crucial opening for Scheffler. While Rahm needed 36 strokes to navigate holes 11 through 18, Scheffler mastered them in just 26 strokes. His remarkable performance on the back nine was truly legendary, sealing his victory in dramatic fashion.
Scottie won this tournament. Somewhat lost in the shuffle of how great the tournament was, what a finish to the year for Scheffler, is how bananas that back-9 was. That comeback, against that leaderboard. Legendary stuff. pic.twitter.com/Am6G8EM8kh

Scheffler would finish with -19 overall edging Tommy Fleetwood of the UK at -18 (Silver) and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan at -17 (Bronze).
Congratulations to Scottie Scheffler on his well-deserved Olympic gold medal, adding a glittering chapter to an already extraordinary 2024 golf season. With the PGA Tour season still unfolding, fans eagerly await to see how Scheffler will close out the year and whether he can capture the FedExCup to cap off his historic season.
