The PGA Tour is set to kick off its 2025 season in stunning fashion at The Sentry in Hawaii. Here’s everything you need to know about the season opener:
The Sentry will take place at the breathtaking Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. Known for its panoramic ocean views and challenging design, this par-73 course has crowned notable champions in recent years, including Chris Kirk, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Smith.
Mark your calendar for January 2-5, as this event promises thrilling action and idyllic scenery to start the new year.
The prize purse has seen a dramatic rise over the past three years, increasing from $8.2 million to $15 million and now a staggering $20 million for 2025. This year’s winner will take home $3.6 million, making it one of the most lucrative events on the PGA Tour calendar.
Players can expect mostly favorable weather, with temperatures in the low 80s and sunshine mixed with occasional rain showers. Winds are forecasted at 12-14 mph for Thursday and Friday but will calm to single digits by the weekend. While pros are accustomed to handling challenging weather, winds at Kapalua can test even the best golfers. Fortunately, the weekend conditions are shaping up to be picture-perfect for fans and players alike.
This year’s Sentry field features 60 elite players, including 31 winners from the 2024 PGA Tour season. As the first of eight signature PGA Tour events, The Sentry sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting year of competition.
Notably absent from the field is World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is recovering from surgery on a hand injury caused by a glass puncture. Scheffler is expected to return to action later this month at The American Express, held January 16-19.
